It is prohibited to dispose of used furniture<\/strong> in public places in Spain and is considered a serious offence. Municipal codes impose penalties for leaving bulky items (including furniture) in street, in the garbage containers or in the areas around them.<\/p>\n The fines<\/strong> depend on the municipality and the size of the furniture item and can reach 800\u20ac.<\/strong><\/p>\n According to our experience the police would fine every person involved. If two persons are caught when leaving a sofa near the garbage container, both will be fined – 800\u20ac x 2 = 1600\u20ac<\/strong> (real story told by an acquaintance of ours).\u00a0 It’s cheaper to dispose of used furniture solo!<\/p>\n There are legal ways of old furniture disposal – bring it to the local waste collection station yourself (you’ll need a van).<\/p>\n Some local authorities offer a free collection of old furniture. You would need to move the item downstairs yourself.
